Manage Course Disciplines

Course Disciplines Management
The Course Disciplines Management screen allows administrators to map courses to clinical disciplines. This mapping defines the academic and clinical focus of each course and ensures that the correct disciplines are associated with course delivery.

Accessing Course Disciplines
To access this screen:
- From the left-hand navigation menu, select Course
- Click Course Disciplines
The screen displays all discipline-to-course mappings grouped by discipline.
Understanding the Screen
- Data is grouped by Discipline
- Expanding a discipline displays all courses linked to that discipline
- Each row shows:
- Course ID
- Course Name / Description
- Toolbar options include:
- + New Mapping
- Export, Refresh, Autofit Columns, and Choose Columns
- A search bar allows filtering by course or discipline
- Each mapping can be edited using the Edit button
Relationships and Data Structure
Course Disciplines act as a key bridge between courses and the clinical module:
- Courses
- Each course can be linked to one or more disciplines
- Course Disciplines (Clinical Module)
- Provide the clinical categorization used throughout the system
- Clerkship Disciplines
- Build on these mappings to define clerkship-specific relationships
- Preceptor Disciplines
- Use this structure to determine which preceptors are associated with a course
- Clinical Data (Conditions, Objectives, Activities, etc.)
- Discipline-based data becomes available to courses through this mapping
This ensures that when a course is delivered, it is aligned with the correct clinical discipline and associated data.
How Course Disciplines Are Used
Course discipline mappings are used to:
- Define the clinical focus of a course
- Control which clinical data (conditions, objectives, etc.) apply
- Align preceptors and clerkship directors with courses
- Support student workflows, including logs and assessments
- Enable structured reporting and curriculum tracking
Creating a New Mapping
To create a new course-to-discipline mapping:

- Select the Course
- Select the Discipline
- Click Save
The mapping will appear under the selected discipline.

Editing an Existing Mapping

Changes will be applied immediately.

Deleting a Mapping
To delete a mapping:

⚠️ Deleting a mapping removes the relationship between the course and discipline but does not delete the course or discipline themselves.
Important Notes
- A course can be linked to multiple disciplines
- Discipline mappings directly impact what data is available within course sessions
- Ensure mappings are accurate before configuring course sessions and student assignments
- Changes may affect preceptor assignments, clerkship structures, and reporting
Proper configuration of course disciplines ensures that courses are aligned with the correct clinical structure and that all related data flows correctly throughout the system.
